Well, well… look at what we have here. An avid and loyal Apple fan such as myself writing a review on «the other guy». This review is going to be geared toward the gaming, specifically Xbox 360 console, side of Microsoft. I will be the first to admit that dealing with Microsoft Xbox support is quite possibly the most frustrating thing one can do on the phone. When you place a call to customer support, your call gets answered by a third party customer service representative that resides in a country that is not the U.S.A. If you need more than the basic, «Is your TV powered on», then this support probably isn’t for you.
That’s where I found myself 3 times in as many years. I’ve owned 3 (now on my 4th) Xbox consoles. Every year, just after my warranty expires, I will start experience signs of video card failure. Each time this happens, I have to call up customer support and go through the routine, get a repair order started and shell out $ 100 for the repair. The last time it occurred I said enough is enough. I’m sick and tired of pay $ 100 a year to own an Xbox. I talked with multiple customer service representatives as well as several supervisors. The bottom line I was getting was I needed to shell out another $ 100 this year for a repair. They failed to see how this console going out every year was an unusual problem. This was the last straw, I gave up with customer support and went straight to the top. I sent a e-mail to Steve Balmer, C.E.O. of Microsoft Corp. I know for a fact that my e-mail was probably never seen by Mr. Balmer himself, but rather his secretaries nannies dog walker. None-the-less a few days later I receive a phone call from a representative from Microsoft Xbox Support. I knew I had the attention of the right person because he had 8:00AM to 5:00PM office hours… now we’re talking :)
To make a long stories ending short, I worked with this representative, and we resolved my current problem with a courtesy repair. So, at least for this year, I won’t have to shell out $ 100 to Microsoft. Oh what will next year bring?

Am I not supposed to review this because I work here? Well … too bad. It’s a cool place to work. I guess it depends on who your boss is, and which of the 50 bajillion buildings you work in. Some have nice fountains and architecture and natural scenery surrounding them. Some are in busy downtown Bellevue next to the high-end handbag boutiques. Others are a confusing maze of mirror image hallways that you keep getting lost in and totally look like they were built in the 80’s. Because they were.
They’ll give you a free bus pass, or pay for your bike, and give you a free Connector ride from your neighborhood.
They have a generous charity donation-matching policy, and pay pretty well. The health benefits are going downhill, though, so minus one star.

Pathetic.
I have an XBox Live account. They bill me yearly. During the past year, my credit card number has changed. So, Microsoft sends me an e-mail that says I need to update my credit card info. There’s a link to Microsoft Billing to make the change.
So far, so normal. BUT the link is a dead link. All I get is a blank page with the message «You do not have permission to view this directory or page.» Try it yourself, it’s
So, I try to get there by logging into my Microsoft account on my computer and can’t find any link to the billing info. Next I get a similar message on my XBox with a choice to edit my payment info, so I select that I want to edit my payment info. So, what happens? It takes me back to the home screen. So, that’s two tries to give Microsoft my money, both of which have failed due to Microsoft’s technology problems. And Microsoft is supposed to be a technology company.
So, finally today I googled «Microsoft billing» and Google, unlike Microsoft knows the correct address for Microsoft billing. It’s
(note the «s»).
And once I clicked the link Google gave me, I was able to log in and change my payment info.
Don’t even get me started about the fact that Microsoft won’t let me change my login e-mail address to my gmail address.

C’mon, Windows 7 is awesome. Completely makes up for Vista and the problems it had with drivers that caused freezing, crashing, and rebooting. No more of that now with Windows 7. IE9 is amazing with it’s hardware acceleration.
Windows Sever 2008 R2 is one powerful and secure OS for all Enterprise computing needs. Exchange is a killer Enterprise messaging app. Sharepoint is an unbelivable collaboration tool. SQL rocks. Office 10 rules. The Cloud is here and BPOS is kickin. XBOX, nuff said.
Windows Phone 7 is coming and I can’t wait.
Most of the bad reviews on here are from several years back. Microsoft has advanced and changed over those years. Two thumbs up to them! Keep it up guys.
*Posted from my Windows 7 laptop using IE9. And it has never crashed, hung, or bluescreened.*

Kind of an interesting place. like maybe Microsoft actually cares about how people interact with there products. I would certainly feel especially happy here if there was more to do with interaction with staff, ideas, suggestion boxes… some more ways to input… take something home.

So sick of their Customer Service!
Recently my hotmail account was hacked into. I don’t know how because I had a strong password with numbers and all. (I think someone got into a server because there’s so many like me.)
So this person or program spams everyone including myself on yahoo. Horrible for many reasons. I went in and quickly changed my password. Now I have been locked out for months. No matter how many times I reset, type in the special characters, answer my secret question or try to contact Microsoft. It always says «I tried too many times with the wrong password». There are hundreds of others people having the same issue. I have no idea why the media hasn’t picked this up?
No help from anyone! Don’t even get me started on their OS. I’m switching to Mac and Linux!

Everyday there are so many things swimming around inside my head… who is a better the Smurfs or the Snorks? Is «vice-versa» to a dyslexic just plain redundant? and do those rubber bracelets people wear actually work? I’m guessing yes… Lance wouldn’t lie… or would he? These questions will continue to plaque me today but the one thing that won’t is who will be getting my 100th review. So who is the most influential company in last 50 years? Is it GM, Toyota, Sony, Exxon Mobile, WalMart, NewsCorp??? I can go on and list more and more but there is one company that reigns supreme… Microsoft. I perused the reviews and sometimes think it’s «cool» to bash Microsoft. Knock the one that’s at the top to praise the Open Source world. While I live that also, I’m a technologist… agnostic to anything other than to that of technology. I’d rather give Oprah a back rub and bikini waxing than speak negative about the pioneer of personal computing and THE most influential company of modern times. Microsoft was developed by visionaries where Bill and Paul became the true pioneers of silicon valley and developed computing as we know it today. These men will go down in history as GENIUSES of our generation. While their focus has grown and branched from their original OS offerings, it’s still the market that has the widest reach. Attacking the leader is easy when others take the original formula and tweak it and open it for the customizations of today’s über programmers. Who knows what the future holds and how successful they will be on all their various platforms, but one thing is certain and that’s that we all need to have respect for those with vision. Grubs ~

Yes there is such a thing as being too nice. The woman who yacked my ear off on the phone today when i needed xbox help annoyed me to no end. I wanted to find her (in whatever country she is in) and wrap her mouth closed with colophane. Gr. Anyways, I just got the red ring of death… again. This is only the second time I’m had the red ring in about 5 years of owning the bloody thing but seriously I swear they solder those thingys to come undone 2 months after your warranty expires. Gr again. I got quoted $ 120 and about a month back time for shipping, repair and shipping again… yes they wanted to offer me all this free crap for using hteir crappy service but still $ 120! that’s just under half of what they are charging for the new slimmer 250 whatevers of memory big ass hard drive ones now!
Regardless the last time I had to send it in I had to wait 6 weeks to get it back… that is too long in my opinion. Oh well, local guy said he’s charge me $ 50 and would warranty his work for another year or two… and have it done same day… yeah think i’m gonna stick with the local guy.

What the heck! 2 and half stars?!
We’re talking about the creators of Windows and the ever so infamous xbox360! I’m hoping female Unilocal-ers aren’t upset and taking it out by bashing on Microsoft because their men spend more time with their Xbox than them (half-kidding).
But really, this place is amazing. I love the campus and I felt like a kid again when my daddy took me in when he was working. I got a cool sticker with my name printed it on it, and the lobby has games! When my dad showed me where the bathrooms were, I saw the Tablet, and it was FUN to play with. It had multiple finger interface — I’m not that easily amused either, so I think that invention is purely legit.
The company store looks really cool, and can you believe that there are tons and tons of white Toyota Prius shuttles for transportation?
It was just like I went to a field trip.
By the way, I’m a PC.
:)

P. S.

Reading the reviews on here really made me disappointed in how some people «hate» Microsoft. Need I remind everyone that «Microsoft Word», «Microsoft Powerpoint», and «Microsoft Excel» are essentials if you own a computer? Not to mention, Apple still needs to run that software on MACs. Come on guys, get off the Haterade!

This review is strictly for their second home video game console, the Xbox 360. It tops my list as the best home console ever released. EVAR! I tell you!
From it’s online gameplay to it’s ability to stream Netflix movies to my big screen TV so I don’t have to watch the «Watch It Now» movies on my tiny computer monitor, this system just about does it all. And I have a crapton of over 80 games for it so there’s never a dull moment.
Hahahaha, my friend will send me a text message asking me to come out for some beers. No, thanks. I think I’ll stay home and play Call of Duty 4. Yes, it’s that good. I have no life.

I’m editing my original review because it was a little too offensive to actual Microsoft employees (just found out that a friend’s wife works for MS)…but I’m not letting MS off the hook in terms of my actual Unilocal rating.
The biggest mistake I’ve ever made in my entire life was upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007.
Outlook redefines what slow means, and Excel doesn’t even sort correctly in my Pivot Tables.
Can I file a lawsuit against them for wasting so much of my time?

So I have a Mac laptop, but at work I am forced to use a Windows computer. ALl I know is that every couple of months, I get a message upon startup that the «encryption codes» need to be updated, and I am supposed to «generate random data» by moving my mouse all over for a minute. As you do that, you watch a bar fill from 0% to 100% slowly. WTF is this? Seriously.
Also, the way Microsoft interupts to remind you of updates is fucking irritating. If you overlook the message, the compute automatically restarts. I hate it so much.

I can’t really hate on Microsoft they make great products… most of the time. When I interviewed at Microsoft I was treated very well, and they had some great benefits… I was just offered better benefits and salary at my current job. But if that were not the case, I’d definitely be a cubicle monkey for Microsoft. Anyway Yay for keeping Seattle on the map.

Oh boo, all you haters.
Hip Hip Hooray for capitalism!
Thanx for keeping our local economy strong. Everyone in the Puget sound enjoys a higher standard of living because of companies like Microsoft and Boeing.
Find me a bigger philanthropist than Bill Gates.
That’s what I thought, you can’t.
Half the reason why we get to geek out on Unilocal is BECAUSE of Microsoft.

I used to love you. I always bought OS/updates, always gave in to your powers. Alas, my Xbox 360 or Crapbox has the infamous «red light» syndrome and it will take you 34 weeks to repair. Considering the console is only 10 months old, W-the-double-f00k?! My PS2 and Gamecube which are much, much older are still running fine, but your Crapbox 360 next generation console has already crapped out. When I get this back, I’ll sell it and gladly buy myself a PS3. Ugh.
Oh, your Customer Service automated system SUCKS donkey balls. We have to talk to some computer generated «cool guy» just to get to a real person. You MS, have lost my business and everyone else’s that I know and will know. Goodbye.

Simply based on what this company has done for cleaning up the region and its real estate, I give them a giant thumbs up.
In the mid ‘90s this town needed a paint job, badly. Most everything looked dingy, old but not in a classic or timeless sense. Old as in… dirty.
How you like us now?!
The O.G.‘s will cry about the past; how it’s not like it used to be. Well, it never is. I would rather see the reformation of vibrant neighborhoods than the blight we had in ’94.
Microsoft is solely responsible for everything from the restoration of Paramount Theatre, Cinerama, the Central District, and much, much, much more.
I hear they do software too!
